Shine Wrestling 4: Scouting Report

If you skipped Shine 3 last month on the belief that it was likely to be a bit of a placeholder show, shame on you, because it turned out to be a heckuva worthwhile show, with Jazz & Rain delivering in the main event and Jessicka Havok vs Mia Yim winning a lot of match of the night plaudits. But chances are you’re back for Shine 4 anyway, with the influx of SHIMMER related talent, and a SHIMMER Title defence in the main event, as Saraya Knight brings her distinctive brand of belligerence to Ybor City in a battle with former WWE Women’s Champion Jazz… so let’s take a look at Shine’s newbies.

Saraya Knight – SHIMMER Champion
First SHIMMER Title defence for the 20+ year veteran, having defeated Cheerleader Melissa at SHIMMER Vol 48 earlier this year … “The English Rose” is the matriarch of female wrestling in Britain, having won multiple titles and promoted wrestling (WAW) with her husband “Rowdy” Ricky Knight for over 15 years … Now promotes World Association of Women’s Wrestling (WAWW) featuring women from all over Europe … Mother of WWE NXT Diva Paige … Came back from a believed career ending injury in 2008 … Former WOW Podcast guest … Likes to “play” when in the US, so keep your hands to yourself and your words soft and sweet in case you have to eat them.

“Rate Tank” Kellie Skater
Hails from Bacchus Marsh, Australia (the most awesomest place ever, apparently) … First ever PWWA Champion came very close to winning the PWWA Interim Championship from Evie recently … Took an extended tour of Japan in the early part of 2012, working for Joshi4Hope, Stardom, JWP and Zero-One (which she talked about on the WOW Podcast)… Impressed many with career-best performances at SHIMMER in April … Scheduled to challenge NCW:FF International Champion Kalamity at Femmes Fatales X on Nov 3rd … Believes she is indestructible (hence the nickname), which from time to time is just as well.

Rhia O’Reilly
Three year veteran from Belfast, Northern Ireland learned to wrestle under Lance Storm at the Storm Wrestling Academy in Calgary, Alberta … Returned to the UK and has continued her training with Justin Richards, Saraya Knight and the London School of Lucha Libre … Likes to put opponents away with the Rhiadjustment (Double Arm) DDT … Current WAWW British Ladies Champion and WAR (Switzerland) champion is also a member of the Pro-Wrestling EVE roster … Debuted on SHIMMER’s main roster on St Patrick’s Day, 2012 (naturally) … Also wrestled for Montreal’s Femmes Fatales in March.

Brandi Wine
Closing in on two decades as a pro, Hooker’s Creek’s Brandi Wine has been a regular fixture across the Mid Atlantic/Carolinas area for years … Broke into wrestling as a valet for Tim Blaze, and a desire for more meant that Blaze trained her up for her in-ring debut in 1995 … Is responsible for getting Lexie Fyfe interested in wrestling … Favourite wrestler is Barry Windham (a fine choice) … Regularly works for … Toured United States military bases in South Korea, Japan, Guam and Hawaii as part of Armed Forces Entertainment in 2005

Davina Rose
Four year pro who hails from northern California … Primarily wrestles for Big Time Wrestling in Newark, which is where she met Serena Deeb in 2010, who took the youngster under her wing … Made her SHIMMER debut in late 2011, and ended her first weekend at 0-4, though put in strong showings against the likes of Mercedes Martinez & Kellie Skater … Formed a team with Mia Yim at the DVD tapings in March, but struggled to achieve that first win, before beating Melanie Cruise & Mena Libra on Volume 47 … Has spent much of the summer wrestling against Kc Spinelli both in California and north of the border in Canada.

Shazza McKenzie
24-year old Australian cheerleader who points out that she has “no cheerleading experience” … Debuted in 2008 and can usually be seen in PWA Australia and Melbourne City Wrestling rings … Made a trip to the US earlier this year to train with CHIKARA and Combat Zone Wrestling while competing for Wrestling Is Fun, East Coast Wrestling Association and IndyGurlz … Debuted in SHIMMER in March and formed an adorable team with Veda Scott, as well as beating Rhia O’Reilly & Saraya Knight in singles matches … Currently exploring her heel side in her native country.

  1. I’m really looking forward to this. Shine is putting on some great cards, and I prefer the live iPPV format and the ‘anything can happen’ feel. This card is stacked, what a treat! Viva Shine!
