The first ever NXT Women’s Champion was crowned at last night’s tapings at Full Sail University in Winter Park, FL. On TV, there have only been three quarter finals televised so if you don’t want to know the final semi-finals and who emerged as champion, don’t click the jump. For everyone whose curiosity is getting the better of them or don’t care about spoilers, here we go…
Yep, it’s Paige – who defeated Alicia Fox with the Paige Turner on the first taping of the evening to advance to the final match, and then won the championship by beating Emma with the same move on the fourth taping (who in turn had got past Summer Rae on the second show of the evening with a roll-up). As you can see, Triple H came out to congratulate the new titleholder, and was joined by all the NXT Divas – minus Rae, who stayed in the back, as you would anticipate the first title feud will be between those two, especially since they were kept separate in the tournament.
While Paige has not gone public online yet yet, her mother Saraya Knight has put out a statement:
Well, our little princess has now become the first NXT Womens Champion. I speak on behalf of the family when I say not only are we all bursting with pride but we are bouncing of the walls and doing a lap of honour around Norwich, thank you for all of you that follow her, without the fans this wouldn’t be a reality, she is proving her worth and dedication and she isn’t letting us down. CONGRATULATIONS sweetheart – you’re making waves and proving dreams can come true. I love you xxx
A few weeks ago, the 20-year old revealed that her nickname had changed from the Anti-Diva to the Diva Of Tomorrow. You would imagine that tomorrow isn’t far away at all.
