This weekend, Mexico will see AAA‘s biggest card of the year – TripleMania – where we will see Taya Valkyrie challenge Faby Apache for the AAA Reina de Reinas Championship, (The show is on iPPV, and Taya is here to talk you through the ordering process), but for this ‘In Video’ segment, let’s throw back to a couple of weeks ago to AAA’s competition, Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL) and the featured female contest from their ‘Juicio Final’ (Final Judgement) show at Arena Mexico. The event took place on August 1st in front of 13,000 fans and featured two Luchas de Apuesta matches (i.e. wager matches, where the loser’s hair or mask is on the line). Underneath the Rush vs Negro Casas hair vs hair match, which saw Negro Casas lose his hair (as usual), the luchadoras of CMLL were involved in an intriguing tag team match, which saw the CMLL World Women’s Champion Marcela, and her masked partner Princesa Sugehit take on the team of Princesa Blanca and the masked Seductora.
Much of the buildup for the match was on the ongoing feud between Blanca and Sugehit, but the announced hair/mask stipulation was further enhanced by the declaration by Princesa Blanca that if she lost the match, she would retire from lucha libre. With Blanca being so strongly linked to the sport (she is married to fellow CMLL competitor Felino – a part of the fabled Casas family) and with announced cards featuring appearances by Blanca already announced for the week after the show… there was no way Blanca would lose (and retire) here… was there?
