Allysin Kay to receive third title shot during Female Fight Season

Allysin Kay Athena AIWIt’s a fortunate time for Allysin Kay.

The AK47 has already received one title shot so far in this extended and stacked Female Fight Season – a Women Superstars Uncensored World Title loss to LuFisto at last Saturday’s Resurgence iPPV – and will go for the Bellatrix World Championship against Liberty at Bellatrix X a week on Sunday. It has now been announced that Kay will receive a third shot at a major female championship six days after Bellatrix when she attempts to regain the Absolute Intense Wrestling Women’s Title from Athena in the main event of Girls Night Out 13 in Cleveland, OH.

Kay lost the belt at GNO12 in March when she was beaten by the Wrestling Goddess in a No DQ, Falls Count Anywhere contest when she was put through a table with an Exploder Suplex. Depending on which account you wish to believe, that marked the end of either Kay’s second reign (which only started on the GNO11 taping earlier in the day when she defeated Leah Von Dutch, though LVD’s reign was disputed) or concluded a 23 month run with the title, which kicked off when she defeated Mia Yim at GNO6.

Meanwhile Athena – who won the title after answering Kay’s open challenge – had also wrestled one match at the shows in March, though both her contests took place during the GNO12 tapings due to transport issues meaning that she didn’t arrive at the building until the interval. As a consequence, she beat Yim in the first match – which was then slotted into the GNO11 show when it was released – then snared the belt in the final contest of the show. She has already defended the title twice – beating Heidi Lovelace and Nikki Storm – though this will be her first defence at a GNO.

Kay has stumbled in her first attempt to capture gold during Female Fight Season, but still has the opportunity to close out the year as a double champion. You can see if she can beat Athena on October 4 at Turners Hall in Cleveland by buying tickets here.

Also taking place that day are two matches which will feature a debut and a return. Second generation wrestler Tessa Blanchard will make her first AIW appearance and will face Veda Scott at GNO13, while Mary Elizabeth Monroe wrestles in her first GNO since the original show in 2009 when she battles Taeler Hendrix as part of the GNO14 card.
